Gateley Plc announces 22 promotions

National law firm Gateley Plc has announced 22 promotions, including four to partner. The news follows the company’s announcement earlier this month, that it had acquired tax incentives advisory business Capitus, now Gateley Capitus. This was Gateley’s first acquisition since becoming the first law firm to float on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.

Gateley Plc’s promotions span its Corporate, Construction, Corporate Recovery, Employment, Residential Development, Regulatory, Real Estate and Commercial Dispute Resolution teams.

Real Estate specialist, Helen Roberts based in the company’s Birmingham office becomes a partner in the Real Estate team and Leeds-based private equity transaction specialist, Sandip Khroud, is promoted to partner in the Corporate team.

Gateley Plc has made two partner-level promotions within its Residential Development Unit, which acts for all ten of the UK’s top ten housebuilders. London-based Rafe Courage and Birmingham-based Rob Thompson have both been promoted to partner.

Gateley Plc’s chief executive, Michael Ward, commented: “Gateley Plc is in the midst of an exciting growth phase since our float, including our first acquisition as a Plc and opening our new office in Reading. Our acquisition of Capitus gives us additional expertise and allows us to offer a wider-range of services to our clients.

“Each of these promoted lawyers has played a pivotal role in the success of the firm in recent years. Their hard-work is at the core of Gateley’s growth, and we’re delighted to be able to announce so many deserved promotions this year.”

Manchester-based Melanie Wilkinson has been promoted to legal director in Gateley’s Employment team, whilst Nottingham-based Paul Simpson has also been promoted to legal director in Gateley’s Corporate team. A further eight lawyers are being made up to senior associate and another eight to associate.

These promotions mark the end of a busy 12 months for Gateley, in which the firm hired seven new partners, in addition to completing its first acquisition. These  include Banking partner Chris Fanner, who joined the Gateley from Herbert Smith Freehills, Phil Gregory – a first Real Estate partners in Leeds – and new head of Private Client Catriona Attride.

Partner hires and promotions have enabled Gateley to increase its offering in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and Leicester. A new office in Reading, led by Christopher Avery, has seen the firm establish a presence in the Thames Valley/M4 corridor.

Gateley Plc provides high quality, integrated partner-led, client-focussed legal services across five core groups to over 4,000 corporate and 1,500 private clients. These core areas are Banking and Financial Services, Corporate, Business Services, Employment and Pensions and Property.
